Mr Douc reported that he was in a cave recovering from malaria when he heard Anti Aircraft fire and witnessed the single engine plane go down about 100 meters away. Mr Douc and others were helpful in finally discovering the overgrown trail of Rt 12 and site of Gombey 19's crash. Several previous searches were focused in the wrong place due to incorrect  last known co-ordinates.

Below  a report taken from Andre's  military record which shows a correction made to Gombey 19's origional crash co-ordinates. Both coordinates were far off from the actual coodinates claimed by the  Vietnamese witnesses. Another American pilot who searched for Gombey 19 shortly after the crash noted a glimmer of something metalic on the jungle floor very close to the latest site claimed by the Vietnamese witnesses. The beeper signal coordinates picked up by SAR are much closer to the Vietnamese witness site as well.
